A TREATMENT ARENA FOR REHABILITATION IN PRISON
In Scandinavian prisons today, there is an increasing focus on the rehabilitation of criminal behavior. Through work, education and treatment programs, the probation services goal is to bring about change and encourage the inmates to live a better life after time served, not simply provide secure custody.
My project is about how interior architecture can contribute to the therapy that is a part of this rehabilitation. With having respect, humanity and tolerance as core values in my project, I want to communicate that everyone deserves a second chance and that we cannot give up on anyone.
Working with the symbolism and philosophy of basic geometrical shapes within the design phase, I have created a separate pavilion on the prison site. The pavilion is the context of the therapy space and is an addition to the existing architecture.

The result is a space that through form, function and material choices has the goal to facilitate the therapy and influence the inmate during the sessions to improve the outcome of the treatment.

Idag läggs ett allt större fokus på rehabilitering av kriminellt beteende inom skandinaviska fängelseanstalter. Genom arbete, utbildning och behandlingsprogram är Kriminalvårdens mål inte enbart att sörja för säker förvaring utan att uppnå förändring och uppmuntra de intagna att leva ett bättre liv efter att de har suttit av sin tid.
Mitt projekt handlar om hur interiör arkitektur kan bidra till terapin som är en del av den här rehabiliteringen. Med respekt, medmänsklighet och tolerans som kärnvärden i mitt projekt vill jag uttrycka att alla förtjänar en andra chans och att ingen är ett hopplöst fall.
Genom att arbeta med symbolism och filosofin om grundläggande geometriska former inom designstadiet har jag skapat en fristående paviljong på fängelseanstalten. Paviljongen är sammanhanget för terapiutrymmet och ett tillägg till den befintliga arkitekturen.

Resultatet är ett utrymme vars mål, genom form- funktion- och materialval, är att underlätta terapin och påverka den intagne under sessionerna för att förbättra resultatet av behandlingen.
